Who Are We?

The Ahlulbayt Society (ABSoc) offers an environment for Shia Muslims to settle into university life and embrace their faith and identity.

We aim to adhere to the message of Islam as carried by the Holy Qur'an, Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him - pbuh) and the Ahlulbayt (his Household), including:

• Upholding unity, tolerance, and respect
• Developing bonds of friendship and community
• Create dialogue and discussion to encourage the pursuit of knowledge and critical thinking
• Actively preparing ourselves for the reappearance of the Awaited Savior Imam al-Mahdi (A), who will fill the earth with justice and equity after is contaminated with injustice and oppression 

We know that university life can be daunting with so many academic and social expectations, so we hope that ABSoc can provide you with an outlet to settle comfortably into the next chapter of your life, while also offering support and room for self-development.

While we are a Muslim-focused society, our events are organised to deal with contemporary issues, allowing us to benefit from the wide range of views that a university environment offers.

We aim to help individuals reach their full potential using the Quran and people of knowledge such as the Prophet Mohammed and his holy family, such as Imam Ali (pbuh), Sayyida Fatima (pbuh) and the rest of the 11 Imams (divinely appointed leaders of Islam) from their lineage. 

What Do We Do?

1.Dua Kumayl Discussions Circles (DKDCs)

Weekly thought-provoking discussions covering a range of topics from religion and faith to cultural affairs and politics! (see some examples below!)

• 21st Century Challenges to Being Muslim
• Science and Islam - What did Muslims do?
• Characteristics of the Shia and our role in Society
• A Moral Compass without God?
• Human Aspects of the Prophets and Imams 
• How we can put the teachings of the AhlulBayt into practice

2.Social Events 

• Dinners
• Bowling
• Golf
• Games Night
• Archery Lessons

3.Special Events

We hold a number of events with special guests and professionals throughout the year! (see some we held last year below!)

• Islamophobia Awareness Month - tackling Shiaphobia
• Mawlid of Imam Ali (as)
• Fatimiyya Workshop - Analysing the sermon of Fadak 
• With a lot more to come!

4.Charity Campaigns

• Ramadan Orphan Campaign - Where we team up with Al Ayn Foundation to raise money to sponsor an orphan for a year. Last year we raised enough money to sponsor 2 orphans for a year and we plan on exceeding the target this academic year! 
• Who is Hussain? - Working with the organisation to raise awareness of the message of Imam Hussain (as)
• Hungry for Justice - Collecting food for the disadvantaged people of London
