Queen Mary Badminton Club (QMBC) play and train throughout the academic year.
*UPDATE JANUARY 2021* - In accordance with government and Badminton England guidelines, QMBC is currently not able to run in-person sessions, with all matches and competitions being postponed until further notice. We will continue to review the situation as new information is made available - the latest updates can be found on our Instagram and Facebook pages (linked below). In the meantime, we are still running regular online socials, so come along to meet new friends and be a part of our community!
We currently have two Men’s teams, one Women’s team and one Mixed team competing nationally in BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) and LUSL (London Universities Sport League). Team members train up to twice a week with a world-class coach - come and join us if you’re interested!
We also have social badminton sessions allocated each week catered to players who have never picked up a racket before as well as those who play casually and regularly. We provide shuttles and have a few rackets we can lend you, however, it's best to bring your own if you have one as they are always high in demand. Being part of the social team, you’ll be a part of the larger badminton family and will be invited to join all social events throughout the year alongside the team players!
Burn calories, meet new people, beat your friends... but most importantly have fun!!!
Join our Instagram and Facebook pages for information and updates.
Men’s and Women’s trials - Trials are held in September and January at Redbridge Sports Centre. Please contact us for more details if you are interested in trialling for the team.
What do you need to bring?
Racket and sports kit.
You will be assessed by our team captains and club President. We will assess your range of skills and team working abilities, not just your ability to win.
What are the next steps if you are selected?
You will be invited to attend our team training sessions, where you will be further assessed by our coach.
What happens if you are not selected?
We have a second round of trials in January. In the meantime, you can join our social squads for extra practice. The team list will change throughout the year as not every team member can attend every match. Commitment is key, so don't give up!
Queen Mary Badminton compete in BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) and LUSL (London Universities Sports League).
BUCS League matches are played mostly on Wednesday afternoons at Redbridge Sports Centre, Mixed (LUSL) League matches are played on the weekend.
For social members, sessions will be held on Thursdays 2:15-4:15pm at Redbridge Sports Centre, and we kindly ask that you purchase the correct membership in order to attend. We provide some rackets (please bring your own if you have one) and shuttles for you and have 3 courts for you to play on, so come and get some fun exercise!
