Labour Society

About

Meet new people, debate big ideas and have fun at QM Labour Society. We hold weekly socials, careers events and talks. Whether Labour, politically curious or here for the vibes, please come along!

You do not have to be a Labour member, study politics, or have any political experience to get involved. Whether you are deeply interested in politics, just starting to explore your views, or simply looking for a welcoming group of people at Queen Mary, you are very welcome.

🗣️ What do we get up to?

There is much more to us than political meetings. Throughout the year, you can expect:

Weekly Thursday socials 🍻
Drinks, games, conversations and plenty of opportunities to meet people, with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options.

Policy debates and discussions
Fancy talking about the latest political drama? Come along, share your views, hear different perspectives and get involved in lively discussions.

MPs and guest speakers 🎤
Hear directly from people working in politics, campaigning and public life, and get the chance to ask your own questions.

Careers events and panels 💼
Interested in politics, public policy, campaigning or related careers? Meet people working in the field, hear about their experiences and build your network.

Lectures and political events
Explore the big ideas and issues shaping our society, from local politics to national and international affairs.

Campaigning and community activities ✊
Get hands-on experience, meet people beyond campus and find ways to turn your political interests into action.

Most importantly, we are here to meet people, make friends, have interesting conversations and enjoy university life together.

🍻 Freshers Opening Night

We are kicking off the year with our Historical East London Pub Crawl.

We will explore the Labour, socialist and trade union history of the East End, visiting historic venues, hearing some fascinating stories and meeting new people along the way.

From Clement Attlee and the development of the Labour movement to the Matchgirls' Strike and the history of working-class organising, we will discover some of the people and events that helped shape the area and British politics.

Politics, history, pubs and new friends. A pretty good way to start the year.

🌱 Never been involved in politics before?

That's completely fine.

You do not need to know everything about politics or have all the answers. Come along, ask questions, share your views, disagree respectfully, learn something new and meet people.

You can come to every event, come to one event, or just join us for the socials. Get involved as much or as little as you like.

🌹 Why join?

Meet people from across Queen Mary and make new friends.

Explore ideas and build confidence discussing politics and current affairs.

Develop your career through speakers, networking and careers events.

Get involved in campaigning and community activity.

Have fun at socials, events and everything in between.

Come for the politics. Stay for the people. 🌹

Whether you are a lifelong Labour supporter, politically curious, or simply looking for your next group of friends, we would love to have you.
