We are Lawyers Without Borders, the Queen Mary student division of Lawyers Without Borders.
Lawyers Without Borders is an international non-governmental and non-profit organisation working to advance the rule of law, improve access to justice and promote human rights around the world. Through its global network, LWOB works on projects addressing some of the most important legal and human rights challenges facing communities internationally.
Here at Queen Mary, we bring those aims to campus by creating opportunities for students to learn, get involved, build their networks and engage with issues that extend beyond the classroom.
And despite the name, you absolutely do not need to study Law to join us! We welcome students from all courses, backgrounds and both Mile End and Whitechapel campuses.
A new chapter for QMUL LWOB
For 2026/27, we are giving QMUL Lawyers Without Borders a fresh start and a complete rebrand.
With a new committee, new visual identity and a renewed focus on making the society more active and accessible, we want to build a community that balances the serious work and values of Lawyers Without Borders with a society that is engaging, social and genuinely enjoyable to be part of.
You can expect a much stronger presence both on campus and online, more regular events and opportunities, collaborations with other societies and universities, and plenty of ways for members to become directly involved in what we do.

What's coming up?
We're aiming to have something happening every month throughout Semester One, from professional and educational events to fundraising, collaborations and socials.
But there are already some important dates for your calendar:
17–18 September 2026 — Welcome Fair
Come and meet our new committee at the QMUL Welcome Fair! We'll be there across both days to tell you more about the society, what we have planned for the year and all the ways you can get involved.

Friday 18 September: 10am–4pm
It'll also be your first chance to see our new rebrand in action, find out more about upcoming opportunities such as ROLIC, meet the committee and officially join our QMUL LWOB community.

2 October 2026 — Rule of Law Innovation Challenge Registration Deadline
One of our biggest opportunities this semester is the annual Rule of Law Innovation Challenge (ROLIC).
ROLIC gives student divisions the opportunity to form a team and develop an innovative resource or solution responding to one of LWOB's real-world rule of law projects and challenges.
Teams receive support throughout the process and have the opportunity to engage with legal professionals, develop practical skills and create something with a real connection to LWOB's work.
If you're interested, make sure you get involved early: team registration and project selection must be completed by 2 October.
