Football (Men)

About

We are comprised of 5 inter-university league teams competing within BUCS and LUSL leagues. This provides members with a platform to play competitive football twice a week.

  • During the 23/24 year, the 1st team won the LUSL Cup for the first time in Queen Mary history, crowning us champions of London.
  • During the 22/23 year, we raised over £3,500 in our Movember and Breast Cancer Awareness campaigns.

The club undertakes volunteering within the local community annually, and we are always looking for more opportunities to give back.

Every year we continuously strive to improve the standard of football we play in order to achieve the best results possible. We also seek to have a good social atmosphere which allows all members to enjoy their football and be part of a unique club.

Taster Session/Trials

All students who wish to join QMFC must attend trials. These will be held towards the last few weeks of September followed by a winter trial in January. Follow the Instagram page @qmufc for updates.

They will be trialled on technical footballing drills along with match-play situations. Those who perform well will be invited to a second trial. From there, players will be placed into inter-university squads.

If not selected, or for players who wish to just play intra-university matches, they can join one of the 11-a-side or 7-a-side social league teams. For more information, please contact social-leagues@qmul.ac.uk. There may also be re-freshers trials at the beginning of Semester 2.

Training

  • Monday 8 - 9.30pm (1st, 2nd & 3rd Team)
  • Friday 8 - 9.30pm (4th & 5th Team)

Equipment: Participants need Astro turfs for training and football boots for competitive matches. They also need shin pads. All playing kit is provided by the club.

Commitment levels required: Attendance at weekly training sessions and availability to play both Wednesdays and Saturdays. A strong commitment is essential to play for QMFC and is a key factor in team selection, poor commitment could lead to expulsion from the club. The three-strike rule will see a warning issued at first, followed by a game suspension for a second strike. If a player receives three strikes there will be a meeting set up within the committee to discuss your place at QMFC.

Trials are held at the beginning of each semester and will be evaluated for technical footballing drills along with match-play situations. The best way to stay up to date with trial information is by following the instagram page @qmufc.
