QMUL Balkan Society

About

The QMUL Balkan Society aims to celebrate and promote the rich cultures of the Balkan region while simultaneously bringing together students from across the Balkans and beyond.

Our society creates a welcoming space to connect people through shared heritage, language, food, music, and traditions. We are committed to building lasting traditions at the university, educating and bringing non-Balkan members closer to our cultures, and fostering a strong sense of community. Through cultural workshops, food events, and collaborations with other similar societies from other universities, we seek to strengthen connections within a smaller community in London, while opening our culture to a wider audience.

We aim to keep Balkan traditions alive among international students coming from the Balkan region as well as making new ones together while being away from home as well as organising and connecting with Balkan societies from other universities in London to build a stronger community and connect members across the University of London.

Each month we host several different events including:

° Country Spotlight Events - Each month we will host and event that focuses on exploring food, music, language and traditions of one country in the Balkan Region. Society members from that country will have the opportunity to share their experiences with others and teach us all something we never knew about their region of the Balkans.

° Traditional Food Evening - Dinner parties aimed at sharing recipes and learning how to make traditional food we all love and cherish from back home.

° Balkan Club Nights - Collaborating with other societies to host or find events in London that revolve around Balkan music and clubbing culture.

° Mentorship and Networking - Hosting talks with Balkan professionals in London with the aim of getting advice when it comes to visas, the language barrier and other resources.

Such events will help members gain insight into new cultures, speak about their own as well as develop both personal and professional connections that will last long after graduation.
