This week's Society of the Week is Mathematics Society. They have been awarded Society of the Week for putting on great events as an Academic Society, engaging students of QMUL both socially and intellectually. Mathematics Society have a great calendar of events for this Semester and their organisation and dedication is highly commendable.
You can find more about them on their QMSU Webpage: http://www.qmsu.org/groups/maths/ or their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/qm.maths.society/
Here's a word from the Society themselves:
We are thrilled to announce that we, the Mathematics Society have been chosen as the Society of the Week.
Our aims of the society are to build a sense of community, show the fun side of mathematics and make our members more employable. This is all achieved through our social, academic and career events.
During the first semester, we had achieved a great turnout of 200 members. In return, we have planned events like monthly pub nights, two movie nights where we watched The Theory of Everything and The Imitation Game, monthly coffee mornings, quiz night as well as academic talks provided by amazing individuals like Matt Parker, Peter Cameron and Jim Webber.
We also had our second Mathematics Impact Day, attended the IMA Early Career Mathematicians Conference and held various career sessions.
To begin our second semester we have had our amazing trip to Germany with 20 of our members! We have planned lots of events such as Ice Skating, Lunch with the Maths Society, Games Nights, watching the movie Pi on Pi Day, the amazing S&E Ball, another IMA conference and academic talks given by students! We will finish off with our AGM and a camping trip in Wales.
If all these events are of your interest, its not too late to buy our membership on http://www.qmsu.org/groups/maths/ and you will be updated when all these events occur on the QMSU page.
Many Thanks,
The Mathematics Society :)
