Women in Law: Ambition. Action. Impact.

At Queen Mary Women in Law Society, our guiding principle this year has been simple: Ambition. Action. Impact.

This year has been about turning intention into tangible change. One of our proudest achievements was raising and donating over £550 to Rape Crisis South London, reaffirming our commitment to supporting women beyond the legal profession and standing in solidarity with survivors.

We also strengthened our intercollegiate presence by hosting a Women in Law Networking Evening alongside six other Women in Law societies across Greater London. Additionally, in partnership with HSF Kramer and LSE Women in Law, we organised a Commercial Awareness Competition designed to bridge academic study and practical legal thinking. The final round was hosted at HSF Kramer’s office, giving students direct exposure to legal professionals in a real-world setting.

Across all our events, from our session with Teresa Ko to panel discussions and networking evenings, we deliberately curated diverse panels representing different practice areas and career paths, ensuring that our programming reflects the breadth of the legal profession. Diversity, to us, is not symbolic: it is structural.

This year, we also went above and beyond to organise large-scale, in-person events despite logistical and financial challenges, reflecting our vision that opportunities should be affordable and accessible. Our Freshers’ Soirée welcomed over 50 attendees in a space designed to feel both professional and welcoming, showcasing that community-building does not have to come at a high cost.

Most significantly, we are preparing to host our first in-person flagship conference, The Future of Law: Technology, Equality & Access. This marks the beginning of what we hope will become an annual tradition: expanding our reach, strengthening our network to create a platform where conversations about equality and innovation in law are not peripheral, but central.

As a community, we believe empowering women cannot happen in isolation. It requires collective effort, including male allies, to challenge systems and reshape the future of law. Through ambition, action, and impact, we are doing exactly that.
