Here at the Students’ Union, we’ve been lucky to work with Sajjad Khan and Jamal Hassan, and we’re excited to share a bit about their experiences and achievements.

Sajjad’s kicked things off with our Students’ Union Finance team. He supported data entry, updating risk assessments and creating PowerPoint presentations. His contributions were helpful, but it wasn’t just his finance work that we appreciated. Sajjad’s upbeat attitude and legendary barista skills (on the office coffee machine) quickly made him a favourite among the team. It’s safe to say he will be greatly missed by a coffee-deprived Finance team.

Jamal joined us for his third rotation with the Students’ Union Customer Services team, and it was clear from day one that this was where he would thrive. With his interest in admin, Jamal brought enthusiasm to every task, from tackling spreadsheets and forms, to creating graphs and running building checks around the Students’ Union Hub completely independently. His excitement for the role made a big difference for the team.
Other Project SEARCH highlights included some brand-new rotations joining the mix, including Department W who joined the team this year, where Sami and Najiur got stuck in polishing their domestic skills. And, over at the Blizard, the post room welcomed interns for all three rotations!
To celebrate the achievements of this year’s interns, Project SEARCH held a graduation ceremony, bringing together interns, mentors, family and friends to reflect on the hard work and progress made. Sean Pollock at Project SEARCH shares: “We are proud of all our interns’ achievements and all the support from the SU managers and mentors.”
Project SEARCH is a supported internship programme provides young adults gain hands-on workplace experience, with tailored job coaching to help bridge the gap between education and employment. And from what we’ve seen first-hand, Sajjad, Jamal, and the rest of the cohort are onto great things in the future!
