RAG raises over £72,627.06 this term!

QMUL Students involved in Raise & Give (RAG) have raised £72.627.06 for charity so far, the biggest total for semester one to date!

Students involved in Raise & Give (RAG) have raised an impressive £72.627.06 so far this term, our biggest ever Semester one total! Fundraising has taken place through the Mile End and Barts & The London RAG groups and the RAG Adopt a Charity scheme.

This year more groups than ever before are participating in the scheme and telling us about their fundraising. Our student-led groups have organised numerous fun, creative and exciting events across our campuses. We’ve seen countless bake sales & bucket collections on-campus and around London, RAG raids and coffee mornings. Student-led charity club nights have continued to be a success with the Young Greens, Disco Society, Snowsports & Marrow Society leading on events that have raised over £3000 in total for good causes, including the Anthony Nolan Trust, Positive East and Shelter from the Storm. Meanwhile our Global Brigades Society have raised over £1200 through bucket collections, whilst the Netball & Rugby teams are currently busy selling their 2017 naked calendars – grab a copy whilst you can, they are not to be missed! These are just a few highlights of some of the brilliant activities we have seen undertaken. For the full fundraising leaderboard click here.

A special mention has to go to the Islamic Society and Muslim Medics & Dentists Society who raised £62,753.01 as part of their joint Charity Week fundraising efforts. The team came 3rd internationally out of all Charity Week groups for amount raised, and also won the award for most innovative charity week group for working with The Crepe Shop in Whitechapel. For every crepe sold money was donated to the cause. Events included a calligraphy session, a hike to Hastings, inter-society quiz bringing together student groups from all campuses and a Brothers Vs Sisters challenge, which included the losing group drinking a milkshake that the other group could make however they liked!

Our RAG groups have also been busy on both campuses, raising nearly £2000 for their nominated charities. The nominated charities at Queen Mary are Breast Cancer Now and Mind, whilst at Barts & The London the nominated charities are The Guild of the Royal Hospital of St Bartholomew, Medecins Sans Frontiers and Cardiac Risk in the Young. Activities have included a BL RAG Raid in Brighton, a Bingo Night organised by Women’s Hockey, Bake Off event, Chriistmas Card sale, a raffle and fundraising on World Mental Health Day. Also remember to look out for the RAG tins in all our Union outlets across campuses – all money put into the tins goes towards our nominated charities.

Remember any student can sign-up and take part in RAG, whether that’s helping to lead and run the events, or simply to take part in one of the many challenges on offer – including running, trekking & cycling challenges!

All student groups are encouraged to get started with fundraising and raising money for good causes through the Adopt a Charity scheme. Groups can either select one of our nominated charities or alternatively can adopt their own. All student groups participating in the scheme will be offered full support from the RAG team including help planning events, promoting your event or activity, access to online fundraising pages and help with banking your money! You may also be entered into awards at the Union Awards and societies can use fundraising when applying for a Societies Excellence Award! For more information contact the RAG team on su-rag@qmul.ac.uk.
