Desire to learn and develop
Queen Mary Students' Union represents and supports over 30,000 students and 4,500 staff at Queen Mary University of London. Our services and programmes help create an inclusive and vibrant student experience, with sport and physical activity playing a vital role in promoting wellbeing, engagement, and community impact.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced recreational sport professional to lead our Recreational Sport Programme. You will deliver an inclusive, student-focused programme across three key contexts: campus, community, and camps. This includes coordinating weekly activities, social leagues, and beginner-friendly sessions on campus, delivering recreational sport in local schools and community groups, and managing low-cost children's sports camps during holiday periods.
The role involves planning and delivering accessible activities including Pay & Play sessions, Learn to workshops, and women-only programming, while recruiting, training, and managing student volunteers and activators who support delivery. You will build partnerships with community organisations, signpost volunteers to Sport Employability Academy funding opportunities, manage programme budgets, and use participation data to engage inactive and underrepresented students.
You will need significant experience coordinating recreational or participation-focused sports programmes, with proven success engaging inactive people in sport. Strong budget management, volunteer coordination, and marketing skills are essential, alongside knowledge of sport legislation (safeguarding, health & safety). A passion for enhancing student wellbeing through accessible sport and a commitment to working in a democratic, student-led environment will ensure success in this hands-on and rewarding role.
This full-time position is based on-site, with flexible working arrangements reviewed following successful completion of probation. The starting salary is £33,263 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefits pension scheme, interest-free season ticket loan, and Sport and Fitness Centre membership.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
