LGBT+ Representative

Arianne Jones and Lucy Lai

About the role:

Are you interested in working to achieve improvements for students who identify as part of the LGBT+ community? The LGBT+ Representative (Mile End) gathers feedback from and represents the interests of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender student community on issues they face. You’ll also be supporting the Vice President Communities, coordinating, and convening with the BL LGBT+ Rep and Trans Representative for LGBT History month and other appropriate campaigns. You’ll be liaising with members of relevant clubs, societies and student groups and encouraging more LGBT+ students to participate and engage with the Students’ Union.

Responsibilities:
  • Engage with and lobby Queen Mary University of London and other relevant organisations to achieve improvements for LGBT+ students
  • Seek feedback from LGBT+ students in order to accurately represent their interests
  • Attend relevant meetings within the Students’ Union and the university (see list of compulsory meetings below)
  • Where appropriate, support the Executive Officers in their duties and responsibilities and seek support from them with respect to their own duties and responsibilities
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the LGBT+ Representative (BL), Trans Representative and other liberation representatives where appropriate, including contributing to the organisation of LGBT+ History Month
  • Liaise with members of student groups relevant to their role, for example the LGBT+ Society (Mile End)
  • Provide regular updates on your work to the students you represent
