Societies Officer (Malta)

Mina Sadik

About the role:

Societies and clubs at Queen Mary cover a huge range of interests (over 300!) and can be a great way to pursue passions and build strong friendships. Every year, we have thousands of new students eager to get involved and the Societies Officer plays an important role in being the voice of these students. As a Societies Officer, you will approve new societies, plan and deliver events as well as allocate funding, all while working closely with Students’ Union staff. You’d also ensure that Malta Societies and the Students’ Union maintain strong communication so that everything runs smoothly! This is a non-representative role and doesn’t sit on Student Council.

Responsibilities:
  • Attend relevant meetings within the Students’ Union and the university (see list of compulsory meetings below)
  • Represent the interests of Malta societies and student groups and be the voice of Malta society and student group members.
  • Convene and co-ordinate with the Societies Officer (Mile End)
  • Assist relevant members of Union staff with events, training and general support for Barts and The London societies and student groups.
  • Encourage and aid Union communication with Malta societies and student groups
  • Be the student face of Malta societies and student groups and accessible to students with society or student group inquiries.
  • Actively work to develop Malta societies and student groups.
  • Provide regular updates on your work to the students you represent
  • Fulfil additional duties as outlined in the Bye-Laws.

Meetings that I attend:
  • Student Council (2 hour meeting, five times a year)
  • BLSA Board (2 hour meeting, six times a year)
  • Societies Board (3 hour meeting, five times a year)
