Hello everyone, I’m Annie and I’m the BL Volunteering Officer this year! I decided to run for Volunteering Officer because I think giving up your time to help others is extremely important. It not only helps other people (and who doesn’t want to do that?!), it also helps your own wellbeing. This is the reason I want to make Volunteering at BL the best it can be. I have lots of volunteering experience: last year I was a Volunteering Champion and led groups of students volunteering at the Whitechapel Mission and at St Joseph’s Hospice in Hackney; I am a Project Play volunteer and I also have lots of experience volunteering at care homes and charity shops.
I have got lots of ideas to make sure as many people get involved in volunteering as possible this year. I’m planning on improving the publicity of Give Volunteering a Go opportunities as these could appeal to lots of students because they don’t require long term commitment. I want to ensure all freshers have the opportunity to find out about the wide range of volunteering opportunities at BL, by running Big Volunteering Events. I’d love to increase the number of opportunities to volunteer with the elderly, especially those suffering from loneliness. Finally, I will definitely be working with the BL Sports Officer to create some friendly competition between sports teams and increasing incentives for sports teams to get involved with volunteering.
The Volunteering Officer (Barts and The London) seeks feedback and represents the interests of the volunteering service and is the voice of students involved in volunteering.
