About the role:

Becoming a Welfare Officer is a great opportunity to represent students on welfare and equal opportunity concerns that affect those in the faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences. You’ll gather feedback on students’ interests and lobby Queen Mary and other organisations to make a positive difference to their lives. You'll support the Vice President Humanities & Social Sciences and Vice President Welfare with liaising with members of the relevant clubs, societies and student groups to identify concerns and implement solutions.

 

Responsibilities:
  • Engage with and lobby Queen Mary University of London and other relevant organisations to achieve improvements for students on matters relating to student welfare)
  • Attend relevant meetings within the Students’ Union and the university (see list of compulsory meetings below)
  • Seek feedback from HSS students in order to accurately represent their interests
  • Where appropriate, support the Executive Officers in their duties and responsibilities and seek support from them with respect to their own duties and responsibilities
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Vice President Welfare, Welfare Officer (BL) and Welfare Officer (S&E) where appropriate
  • Liaise with members of student groups relevant to their role
  • Provide regular updates on your work to the students you represent

 

Meetings that I attend:
  • Student Council (2 hour meeting, five times a year
  • Humanities & Social Sciences Board (2 hour meeting, five times a year)
  • Welfare Board (1.5 hour meeting, five times a year)
