Hello, everyone, my name is Fan Xin, you can call me Fancy. I’m a postgraduate student in banking and finance and I wanna to be the president of QMUL.
Why you should elect me ?
I’m a leader in the tuition fees reduction petition campaign last year. I launched this campaign in December, and worked with a lot of universities’ organizers such as KCL and, some of them has gain a discount. This campaign gained about 3000 signatures from QMUL which directly led to the discount of tuition fees becoming a motion in the students’ annual meeting. Now, I want to carry this campaign and Post-epidemic reconstruction to the end!
What motivate me to stand ?
I was a CEO assistant of a technology company and I responsible for assisting my leader in making the operation strategy and long-term planning. It was a senior management position that requires a higher and more comprehensive point of view towards the operation and strategy management of the company. I gained a great deal from this experience.
What have I done ?
After I became a student of Banking and Finance in QMUL, I set up a wechat group (same like whatsapp group) in China. Now, I am in charge of the whole B&F class. After understanding the students' learning needs, I set up a ‘Note taking group’ to help them to learn efficiently. In a word, I have a good reputation and influence among QMUL’s students, and I am very happy to serve for students.

How to achieve?
1. About the tuition fees and other proposals in the annual meeting:
The innovative blended learning model is proved not so good as promised. Many students are dissatisfied with the model of online teaching, and they hardly have the opportunity and environment to communicate face to face to their teacher which is essential for international students who put learning atmosphere first. Moreover, some online students are not able to use some campus facilities, such as classroom, library, gym, playground, and canteen. Even the students who come to London can not fully enjoy these facilities and learning atmosphere neither. Not to mention the large ratio of increase in tuition fees than last year( about 6%, e.g. £22150 to £23500 in B&F ). We would like to request the school’s finance department to figure out how much electricity, depreciation, taxation and so on we have saved, then give the money back. If cannot be calculated, it will be according to the standard of parliamentary debate, about 1/3 return.
2. About the preparing for the campus reconstruction after the end of epidemic:
We not only struggle with protecting our physical health during the time traveling to UK, but also we faces the shortage on financial aspect since we pay an enormous amount of tuition fees for studying in UK. Many of us need to pay all the fees occurring in the nucleic acid detection that asked by the British government. In addition, due to the lock down policy, students take all the courses through the internet. International students who comes alone to UK lose the most opportunity to chat with the native students. They will feel much lonely than before. Even worse, some of them who bad at English will stay in their comfort zone and avoid to communicate with other students who use the English as their mother language. In this situation, students will suffer many mental problems. This cannot contribute to the harmonious campus atmosphere. The Missing of communication will cause a series of misunderstanding happened. The Best way to reduce such things happen is providing sufficient activities to enhance the connection within the students. Let the students successfully complete their degree with a wonderful memory on campus life.
