QMSU One-Day: Breakfast Challenge

Sunday 21 May 2017, 5:15am - noon

Whitechapel Mission
About this event

The Whitechapel Mission, a local homeless day centre, is a lifeline for many vulnerable men and women in London who've found themselves trapped in a cycle of homelessness and poverty.

Role description:

Our volunteers support the Mission to cook and serve breakfast to the 300 homeless people they have come through their door each day. It's an early start- but well worth it. Volunteers will meet at 5:15am, start their shift at 6am, and finish by 12pm.

No previous cooking skills are required! Volunteers will be fully briefed on how to cook the breakfast items and how to communicate with the homeless guests. Volunteers will be supervised and supported at all times.

This is a very rewarding experience and an opportunity to meet people from the streets in a positive and meaningful way. Volunteers will utilize and develop a wide variety of different skills including team work, communications, and working under pressure (you'll also learn to cook 10 eggs at a time- always useful).

How to get involved?

This is our most popular One-Day Volunteering opportunity and you need to register in advance to get involved. Make sure you're registered as a volunteer on the QMSU Volunteering website to ensure you're the first to hear about it when we start taking applications for this opportunity (usually 2 weeks in advance). There are only 8 places available.
