Queen Mary Snowsports provide the opportunity to learn both skiing and snowboarding from any level – whether you’re a pro or a complete beginner, we would love to have you join our club and share the snowy love! Our beginners captain organizes biweekly lessons at Hemel Hempstead Indoor Centre up until the Christmas trip. Any questions, message us on Facebook and our beginners captain Tom will get back to you.
Want to compete? In addition to lessons, we also have an established race team competing on a regional and national level throughout the year. This year, we’re looking to develop freestyling with regular trampoline sessions and entry into competitions. Whether you’re in for the fun of it or if you’re a hardcore racer or freestyler, we would love to have you join our team. We provide weekly training sessions in Hemel Hempstead, Milton Keynes and Brentwood throughout the year, so any questions, just message us on Facebook and our race captain Chiara will get back to you.
And of course, the biggest event of the year (and possibly the best week of your life) is our Christmas ski trip to the Alps. Anyone is welcome to come, even if you haven’t come to any training sessions or socials. This is a week filled with skiing and partying and you’ll make the best friends and memories to look back on your time at university! In addition to this, we also arrange an Easter trip.
Our social calendar is jam-packed with anything from curry nights, parties, and of course our legendary 24-hour Silliness Social. So even if you’re not into skiing, come along anyway and make friends!
Make sure to follow us on Facebook to keep up to date with all training sessions, competitions and social events.
Never skied before? Try a beginner’s lesson at Hemel Hempstead Indoor Centre. Our beginners captain will meet everyone on campus, get the train to the centre and make sure that everyone has a comfortable and safe experience. Booking includes rental of skis, helmet and instructor.
Want to try racing and join our race team? Come with us to Brentwood Dry Slope Centre. Please note that you do not have to have raced before – you just have to be a fairly confident skier/boarder! Our race captain will meet everyone on campus and get the train to the centre.
Essentials: long warm socks (preferably ski socks), long trousers, gloves.
Optional: ski boots, slalom skis, helmet, goggles for indoor (not needed for dry slope).
NB: Anyone who does not have their own equipment will be given ski boots, skis and protections at the centre.
Commitment levels required:
Our £20 membership fee includes access to all our socials and subsidised lessons and training. If you wish to join our race team, attendance at training sessions is required, as well as participation at BUDS, Kings Races and BUiSC indoor series. We also ask for a £35 competitive membership fee – this will give you extra-subsidised training sessions as well as subsidised transport to competitions!
If you do not wish to join our race team, or if you’re not quite sure yet, you do not commit to anything! Just show up to our socials, training sessions as you wish and of course, we would advise everyone to come on the trip!
NB: Standard memberships can be upgraded to competitive.
