About

Welcome to the Queen Mary WaterAid Society! We work in affiliation with the charity WaterAid, who work towards clean water for everyone, everywhere.

Welcome to the Queen Mary WaterAid Society! Our society brings together like mind students who want to work towards equality in all its forms, but particularly when it comes to clean water . Our members can chat in a relaxed enviroment whilst inspriring one another through learning about WaterAid. We support one another as we tackle the water crisis through group fundraising events or volunteering at music fesitvals such as Glastonbury!

You don't need any prior volunteering or fundrainsing experience; in fact you don't even need to know much about WaterAid. All we ask is that you have a desire to learn about WaterAid, as well as helping other people. With the pandemic highlighting the importance of clean water, our work has become all the more important which is why need as much help as possible.

In fact, here are some WaterAid's driving statistics:

  • 785 million people don’t have clean water close to home.
  • 2 billion people don't have a decent toilet of their own.
  • 3 billion people don't have handwashing facilities at home.
  • Every minute a newborn dies from infection caused by lack of safe water and an unclean environment.
  • Around the world up to 443 million school days are lost every year because of water-related illnesses.

Our society's efforts will go towards aiding WaterAid's larger scale projects (which we can help you get involved in if you want) such as installing taps and toilets, convincing governments to change laws, linking policy makers with people on the ground, pool knowledge and resources and rallying support from people and organisations around the world.  Come and join our WaterAid family to make a lasting change happen on a massive scale.
