Try Something New

Now that the majority of your exams are done, and a long, hot, and relaxing summer awaits (hopefully…) here at the SU we’re busy planning for the academic year to come.

It’s going to be an exciting year for Student Groups at QMSU and BLSA and we want to make sure that you have as much support as possible when September comes. Based on previous feedback, and the success of the two Try Something New guides released this year, you informed us that you would like the Union to offer more support with marketing and promotion – so we’re doing exactly that!

Try Something New

In September ’17 we launched our ‘Try Something New’ marketing campaign. Comprising two guidebooks and lots of on-campus marketing, ‘Try Something New’ is all about new and returning students giving new activities a go and getting involved with Union life as much as possible. During Welcome Week the Union prints 5000 copies of the booklet – this year all 5000 copies were handed out.

How Does this Help Your Student Group? The booklet helps increase membership and promotes all of the fabulous events you have planned for the first semester, to the thousands of new students arriving in September. We know you’ll be planning Meet and Greets and many other great events, so tell us all about it and let us promote it for you!

Key Dates and Important Info

The first ‘Try Something New’ guide for the next academic year will be produced before move in weekend (14/09/2018 – 16/09/2018) and will cover all of the events put on by student groups, sports clubs, and Union events until December 2018.

What we need from you

*If you want to reserve either Blomeley Room 1 or 2, Matt Spencer Boardroom, the Recovery Room or the Study Room, please click on the links in the table below. They will take you to a doodle poll for the corresponding room. Please note – once you have selected the room you want, it will be unavailable to other student groups. Please do not book a room until you are certain your student group will use it.

If you do wish to book a Union room, please specify which one using the google form below. If you wish to hold your event off campus, please write N/A in all of the room booking descriptions*

If you would like to be included in the Try Something New booklet, please complete this google form which asks for date, location and a brief overview of your first event. To ensure the booklet is accurate, you must be committed to seeing the event through.

The deadline to do so is 9am 17th August 2018. Due to the University’s room booking system not opening until mid-September, events advertised in the ‘Try Something New’ Guide must be in a Union space or off campus. Rooms will be allocated on a first come first basis but will be in line with our fair use policy.
