We are currently searching for students who are interested in leading an exciting new South-East and Essex Touch Rugby programme. This programme will not only be open to students to participate in, but will be organised, run and coached by students.

The sessions are scheduled to take place on Thursday evenings at East London RFC from 8:30 - 10:30pm, beginning January 19th. They are aimed mainly at beginners, encompassing a mix of touch rugby and small skill sessions that will be appropriate for all participants, regardless of ability or gender. Any students interested must be available during this time throughout the second semester.

We are looking to take on 5-10 volunteer coaches, all of whom will also be involved in other areas of managing the project, including refereeing and general administration tasks. Students selected for these roles will benefit from:

  • Free training from the RFU in how to coach, referee and lead touch rugby sessions
  • Coaching qualifications funded by the RFU after 15 hours of voluntary coaching experience
  • Support from QMSU and UEL sports development teams
  • Further information regarding paid and voluntary coaching roles through the RFU and other local sport organisations
  • Skill development in areas such as leadership, communication and planning

QMSU students are also eligible for rewards through the QMSU Community Sport programme, such as a coaching t-shirt and hoodie after 5 and 10 hours, respectively, as well as opportunities to coach on QMSU Spring and Summer holiday youth sports camps.

Any student interested in the role must complete this form by the deadline of Monday January 4th at 9am. Successful candidates will be required to attend an interview on the evening of Thursday 12th January (after 5pm).

We are looking for enthusiastic, outgoing students who are keen to further their skill development through sport. Previous playing and coaching experience is not necessary, however any previous experience will be beneficial in supporting your application.
