QM Angels win silver in Europe!

QM Angels win Silver in Europe

Big congratulations are in order to our cheerleading team, QM Angels, whose Elite team, Reign, won silver at the European Cheerleading Championships last month after winning their division and becoming national champions at the British Cheerleading Association Nationals back in April. Due to their success at the British Nationals, they were awarded a bid to the European Championships, had their entries sponsored and were given lots of help to make sure they were ready to perform.

The team usually competes at level four, but at the European Championships, teams can only compete in Elite (level 5) or Premier (level 6), so the team was entered at level 5 with the “aim to have fun and hopefully not come last”! The team had to learn lots of new skills and a completely new routine, which usually takes months to preprare, so were presented with a huge challenge.

As the team were awarded their European bid during exam season and were unable to train until the start of June, they only had four weeks to prepare and had just two practices with the entire team before leaving for Prague.

Despite their hard work, with so little time to prepare, it came as a huge shock to the team when they were awarded the silver medal for their routine in the Elite category.

Mikaela Wood, the Elite Team Captain said of the achievement:

“With only 4 short weeks of training, it's safe to say we were going to Prague for the experience itself and to have fun. I can speak on behalf of the whole team when I say we were not expecting to come home with silver medals (when they began announcing the top 10 we genuinely thought we'd been forgotten). It still feels like a dream and it hasn't properly sunk in yet that we, a little university team from East London, are second in Europe in our division! It just goes to show that hard work and determination really does pay off, and I couldn't be more proud of the team.”

Congratulations QM Angels!
