QMUL Barbell Club success in South Africa
Last month, the QMUL Men’s Barbell Club travelled to Potchefstroom, South Africa, to participate in the World University Powerlifting Championship, following their success at the British University Powerlifting Championships in April.
The team worked incredibly hard to achieve an amazing third place in the competition, with every participating member hitting personal bests in their categories! All members of the QMUL Barbell team train at Qmotion and have been preparing under immense pressure throughout injuries, Ramadan and exam season. It is therefore a fantastic achievement for the team Mohib Miah, Afzol Ali, ZainMalik, Billal Sohail, Theo Warren, Kevin Yong and Donald Man brought home amazing results across different categories in the five-day event despite disruptions to training.
President of the QMUL Men’s Barbell Club, Theo Warren said of the competition:
“The competition was different to what anyone had experienced before. However, with the great performances that the team produced, we came 3rd. Everyone had an amazing time and it was a great experience. We're looking forward to the next British University Championships so that hopefully we can qualify for next year’s World Cup in the Czech Republic, and hopefully we'll have a women's team that will come too.
Special thanks must go to Norman our coach, who provides us with great training programmes that made this possible, but also as he flew out to support and manage the athletes during the competition, we are hugely grateful. A final thanks to everyone that bought Barbell Club t-shirts that helped raise money for the team to pay for flights and hotels.”
A huge congratulations are in order, well done guys!
