Queen Mary Students’ Union are saddened to hear about the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and extend our condolences to the Royal Family at this time.
Queen Elizabeth II took the throne in 1952 and was the longest reigning monarch in British history. During her reign, she witnessed a period of significant social change and a transformation in our daily lives. Queen Elizabeth II was also the Patron of our University, a royal link that dates back to 1887 when the People’s Palace Technical Schools were opened by Queen Victoria, and 1934 when East London College became Queen Mary College, named after Mary of Teck, wife of King George V.
