Covid-19: Our spaces are open

Our places and spaces on the Mile End, Whitechapel and Charterhouse Square campuses are important community spaces for all Queen Mary students. They’re places for meeting and catching-up with other students and friends, studying, chilling out, working out, activities and events and prayer and contemplation.

We’ve been carefully planning how to open our spaces safely for those of you who are planning to return to campus and our staff teams. We're now open and ready to greet you and welcome you back.

We have reopened most of our spaces and we cannot wait to see you again. Our spaces will have some changes, and they might be a bit different if you’ve visited before, but this is to keep you safe. You’ll find hand sanitiser stations, clear signage, social distancing measures, new layouts, enhanced cleaning and new online services to help you access what you need or order food and drink in some of our venues.

Please remember like everything in life right now plans might have to change depending on how the ongoing situation develops, but we’ll keep you all updated via emails, social media and our website.

Things we’ll be doing in our spaces to keep you safe

We’ve put together a handy video to let you know what we’ll be doing in our spaces to keep you safe. You can watch it here.

The safety of you, our student staff and full-time staff team is our number 1 priority. As you’ll know everything in our lives feels and seems a bit different right now, and this is the same for all our spaces on our campuses. We’ve worked hard though to make sure everything is in place to keep you safe. When you’ll return, or join us for the first time there will be;

  • Hand sanitiser stations throughout our spaces
  • Helpful and clear signage that explains how our spaces operate and any new rules you need to follow when using them.
  • Social distancing floor markings to remind us to keep our distance from each other.
  • Some areas will operate one-way systems, with new entrance and exit points.
  • Enhanced cleaning, with additional cleaning of our spaces taking place throughout the day, with deep cleaning taking place prior to opening and after closing each day.
  • New mobile ordering online for food and drink in some of our spaces.
  • Contactless payments preferred across all our spaces.

We cannot wait to see you again and welcome you back to your Students’ Union spaces.
