Student Rep Committee

What is the Student Rep Committee?

The Student Representative Committee (also known as the Student Rep Committee or the SRC) is the official voice of Queen Mary students. The members are the 6 Executive Officers and the 10 Student Representatives. Elected by students, the Student Rep Committee represents your views within the Students’ Union, to the university, in the local area and nationally. The Student Rep Committee is responsible for listening to student feedback, taking action on your ideas and making sure your university experience is the best it can be.

What does the Student Rep Committee do?
  • Represents you: Brings your concerns and ideas to key decision makers in the university, locally and nationally, and helps shape policies that affect student life.
  • Acts on feedback: Receives feedback from students and works to address issues that matter to you.
  • Oversees the sub-groups of the SRC: Oversees sub-groups, approves funding for student-led initiatives and campaigns on topics like education, student support, mental health, sustainability, community and all the other things that are part of your student experience.
  • Reviews policies: When policies from the All Student Meetings expire, the Student Rep Committee reviews the policies to keep them up-to-date and relevant.
  • Ensures accountability: Receives reports from Executive Officers and Student Representatives and submits joint reports to the All-Student meetings for transparency.

How does the Student Rep Committee work?
  • Membership: The membership is made up of Executive Officers and Student Representatives. The meeting is chaired by the Students’ Union Chair, who is a current student.
  • Monthly meetings: Meetings are held once a month from October to June. Additional meetings can be called if needed.
  • Open agendas: Any student can submit agenda items for the meetings, and minutes are published online for everyone to see. To submit an agenda item, please contact su-representation@qmul.ac.uk.
  • Voting: Every member of the Student Rep Committee has a vote. Decisions are made by majority, ensuring fairness and transparency.
  • Sub-groups: The Student Rep Committee can create sub-groups for student-led campaigns and projects. Any student can propose a new sub-group, and funding is available for approved initiatives. To propose a new sub-group, fill in the Make a Change form.
