What if your journey to campus was a little cheaper, greener and healthier?
Many of us travel right across London to get to campus, and how we make that journey matters. Swapping the car or public transport for a bike can cut emissions, and it's a simple way to fit some fresh air and exercise into your day.
This year, we're making that swap a little easier.
Thanks to the generosity of a Queen Mary alumnus, we've been gifted a second-hand bike and a second-hand scooter and we're giving it to a student who could benefit from a more sustainable way to get to campus.
It's a nice reminder that sustainability isn't only about how we travel. Giving an old bike a new home, rather than buying something new, means fewer resources used and fewer emissions produced in the first place.
Who can apply?
The bike or scooter is available to a student who:
- Currently commutes to one of our London campuses from within Greater London
- Lives outside university accommodation
- Is a confident cyclist/ scooter with a good understanding of UK cycling and road laws
How to apply?
Applications are open from 2 October to 16 October 2026. Just tell us about your current commute and why a bike would make a difference to you.

Sustainability doesn't have to mean big, sweeping changes. Often, it starts small, in how we get to campus, or in giving something we already own a second life. Choosing to cycle is one small step towards a cleaner, healthier community for all of us.
