Qmotion is now open

Qmotion has re-opened and we can’t wait to see everyone back in the gym! Our team have been working hard to make sure we can welcome you back safely, with enhanced cleaning, hand sanitiser stations, a new gym layout that allow for social distancing, and lots of signage to remind you and the other gym users about how to remain safe while using the facility.

 
Memberships
  • We paused all fixed duration memberships when we closed 18th March 2020 and they were restarted when we re-opened on the 27th July 2020.
  • All Direct Debit memberships were suspended when we closed and have now been resumed. If you have a direct debit membership and are not planning to come back to the gym anytime soon please cancel it at your bank to avoid being charged.
 
Cleaning & Hygiene
  • Our facility, including all exercise equipment, is being deep cleaned every night while we are closed and our staff are cleaning touch points throughout the gym several times per day.
  • We have installed spray bottles and paper towel, and disinfectant wipes throughout the facility for customers to wipe down equipment after use.
  • Hand sanitiser stations are installed at reception, and in all exercise areas to ensure that you can keep your hands clean
 
Social distancing
  • We have reconfigured the gym to ensure that equipment can be used whilst maintaining a safe distance from other people. Where equipment could not be moved it has been made unavailable.
  • In the free weight areas we have used floor makings to indicate individual exercise stations, and where you can queue if waiting for a piece of equipment.
  • We are limiting the number of people we allow into the gym to ensure that customers can move around the facility while maintaining a safe distance from each other.
 
Changes to facilities and services

Our number one priority is the wellbeing of our customers and staff, and as such we are taking a phased approach to re-opening which will mean initially some services and parts of the facility will not be available.

  • We are only selling day passes, 1 month memberships, and monthly direct debit memberships.
  • There will be no onsite group exercise classes. However, we are running classes online.
  • Changing rooms are open but showers are not available.
  • The squash court remains closed.
  • We are only taking card payments at reception
  • The sports hall and studios are not open for bookings

We will be reviewing the situation on a weekly basis and will gradually re-introduce services and facilities that have been made unavailable when we feel it is safe to do so.


COVID terms & conditions

Recommendations to members

To facilitate a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone using Qmotion we ask that customers take note of the following recommendations:

  • Please aim to come to the gym dressed in the clothing you intend to exercise in to minimise congestion in changing rooms.
  • If you are aged 65 years and over or have any underlying health conditions that make you more vulnerable to Covid-19 we ask that you follow the government guidelines. If you still wish to use the facility, try to visit the gym Monday-Friday 9am to 11am.
  • Try to limit your workout duration to 1 hour to give everyone a chance to use the gym.
  • Avoid our busiest peak times (5-7pm on weekdays) if possible.
  • Be considerate of people waiting for equipment and finish using an exercise station as quickly as possible.
  • Please remember to wipe down the equipment when you have finished using the paper towel and disinfectant spray or anti-viral wipes provided. Please do not use your own towel to clean equipment.
  • Drinking fountains will only be available to fill water bottles – not to drink from directly. Please consider bringing a full drink bottle with you to reduce queuing around water fountains.
  • Please refrain from shouting as this increases the risk of corvid-19 aerosol and droplet transmission.
  • Please regularly use the hand sanitiser stations that are available throughout the facility.
  • Keep a safe distance away from other members, and respect our “one person per zone” floor markings.
  • If you have not received any emails from us recently it means that we do not have your email address. We need this to support the NHS Test and Trace service so please contact su-Qmotion.Reception@qmul.ac.uk or visit the reception desk in person to provide us with your email address.

Opening Information:

No, we are maintaining our regular opening hours. These are Monday-Thursday 7am-10:30pm, Friday 7am-9pm and Saturday & Sunday 10am-6pm.

Yes, we will be restricting the number of people in the gym at the same time, so members can keep their distance from others. When the main gym floor reaches a certain capacity, the reception will be instructed to operate a one-in and one-out policy. We appreciate that this may cause some inconvenience but we need to operate in a way that keeps you safe and is within government guidelines. We thank you for your patience on this. We have attempted to increase capacity by changing our layout and using additional spaces for equipment and stretch areas.

No, we are not asking members to book time slots to come to the gym at this stage.

We recommend that members avoid our busier times during the evening between 5pm to 7pm, Monday to Thursday if they can.

To maintain social distancing requirements we are limiting the number of people that we let into the facility at any one time. During the summer months the gym is typically quiet and queues will be very unlikely. At the start of the University term (late September) you may need to queue during busy times (5-7pm), or we may introduce a booking system to manage capacity. We will keep our customers updated via email, social media, and the website of any changes we introduce.

We ask that members restrict their time in the gym as much as they can to keep the number of members in the gym at any time low. Please try to limit your workout duration to 1 hour.


Facilities:

Yes, the changing rooms are open, but we encourage all our members to be dressed ready to use the gym in exercise attire when they arrive to prevent the changing rooms becoming busy and congested. We have marked spaces on the benches to indicate individual spaces for people to get changed.

There are still lockers available, but ask that you wipe down your locker after use with the spray and paper towel provided.

In line with government guidance, we have taken the showers out of use, but the accessible showers are strictly for qualified individuals with a disability.

We’ve looked at our gym spaces in terms of layouts, most popular equipment and how we can ensure that we are able to offer as much of the equipment as possible, whilst also ensuring the safety of our members whilst socially distancing. Taking these actions have allowed us to reopen and keep the disruption to a minimum. This has included temporarily reducing the amount of equipment that we have available. We have also taken away certain equipment that we deemed to be unusable if exposed to regular cleaning or are inappropriate for regular cleaning.

We have taken away chalk, foam rollers, resistance bands, weightlifting belts, dipping/pull up belts and yoga mats so if you have your own that you prefer to use, feel free to bring yours in for personal use.

To ensure that our members can maintain a safe distance from each other whilst using the facility, we have changed the layout of the gym and moved some equipment to different areas. We have also taken some equipment out of use. Whilst we will have less equipment and machines to use temporarily to maintain safe social distancing, we have done our best to keep as much equipment in use as possible.

The water fountains around Qmotion should only be used to re-fill bottles. Members should not drink directly from the water fountains.


Etiquette, Health & Safety:

Yes, to help keep all our members safe our staff will be monitoring use of the gym, carrying out additional cleaning tasks and as always ready to offer help or support to any of our members as required.

The government have confirmed it is not compulsory to wear a mask within the facilities, as there are other measures already in place in the gym for safety and hygiene. If want to do so, you can, but please ensure that all used masks are disposed of safely.

No, in line with current government guidelines are staff will not have to wear a mask whilst in the gym. However, we will be providing staff with masks when they are cleaning.

Our staff are regularly checking stocks of all our cleaning products during this time. If you notice anything missing or running low, please let a member of the team know so they can ensure it is re-stocked.

Because of our commitment to our members, we want to ensure that the gym is a safe place to train. Given the current circumstances we have increased our cleaning and have also provided cleaning products to help members disinfect the equipment they’ve been using before another member uses it.

In normal circumstances, a towel is more than sufficient to wipe off sweat, but as we are also looking to help prevent the spread of a virus, disinfectant spray and single use wipes are more effective for this.

Use of a sweat towel should currently only be used to wipe sweat from your body, not from the equipment.

We are following the advice of national and international health services as well as that of Government in re-opening our gym. We have put additional measures in place to ensure that our members and team members are safe within Qmotion, this includes; limiting the number of people in the gym at any one-time, changing our layout and spacing out equipment, reducing the amount of equipment available to help ensure social distancing can be practiced and providing additional cleaning and hygiene equipment for our members to use. We will also be undertaking additional cleaning throughout the facility. By following the guidelines and adhering to our rules and policies, we are ensuring that our members are safe within our gym.

We have changed the layout of the facility and removed some pieces of equipment to help ensure that our members can train whilst adhering to safe social distancing measures. We will also limit the number of people allowed in the gym at any one time, as well as providing cleaning equipment and hand sanitiser for our members to use as they enter the gym, and to clean the equipment after use. We will also undertake additional cleaning throughout the facility. To help us keep our members safe, we ask that you respect the social distancing rules, and regularly wash your hands.

If you are unwell, symptomatic or have tested positive for Covid-19, please do not attend the gym and follow government regulations on self-isolating for the minimum period of time. You should only return after this minimum period if you are feeling well again and showing no symptoms. You must email the Qmotion management about your results if you are tested positive.

We have worked hard to ensure that the new layout of the gym, the equipment in use and the placement of our cleaning and hand stations are optimal for the gym layout and maintaining a safe distance. We will also limit the number of people entering the facility to ensure the gym does not get too crowded

We have currently expanded our gym exercise areas to the Active Studio and Mind & Body Studio where we have moved some of our equipment to. The Active Studio will be an extension to the open gym thus open for everyone. The Mind & Body Studio will be an extension for the Female Gym thus open to strictly females only. The Performance Studio will be open for use before 9am and after 5pm.

All our facilities will adhere to government guidelines in ensuring that members are a safe distance apart. When taking free weights, we ask members to be conscientious towards other members and respect the social distancing measures that are being enforced. If this is ever not the case, please speak with a member of the team on site who will be more than happy to assist in any way that they can. Our team will be monitoring the conditions of the exercise areas continuously throughout the day.

We have installed cleaning stations that provide both hand sanitiser for all our members to use on entry, as well as paper towels and sanitiser spray to clean the equipment after use. We ask that all members use the cleaning products to clean the equipment to help reduce the risk of any illnesses being spread.

We are working hard to ensure that our hygiene standards are kept to an exceptional level. To achieve this, we have increased the frequency that our facilities and equipment are cleaned, as well as providing more cleaning products for our members to use. This helps ensure that the equipment is regularly cleaned and decontaminated. We also deep clean the gym each evening after we close so it is ready for the next day.

If ever you feel that this is not the case, we strongly encourage you to speak to a member of staff on site who will happily ensure that any issues are resolved.

We have policies in place for the event that one of our members have been reported been tested positive for covid-19.

  1. On notification of a confirmed covid-19 case in the facility the building will be closed.
  2. Information regarding the date and times of entry to Qmotion and movement of the infected person around the facility as well as details of any close personal interactions they had with other people will be obtained.
  3. The facility will be cleaned in accordance with the government guidance.
  4. All members will be sent an email notifying them that a confirmed covid-19 case was in the building (with details of the date and time and the areas the individual spend any significant time) and that Qmotion will remain closed until the facility has been cleaned. Notices will also be placed on the website and social media platforms and on the reception door.
  5. Anyone (staff or customers)who has been identified as having close contact with the infected individual will be contacted and informed that they will not be allowed to enter the facility for 14 days.
  6. Once the facility has been deep cleaned it will be re-opened for business.

Yes, we keep a record of the time and date that customers enter the gym and can provide this to the NHS test and trace service. We will also provide gym members with information regarding any confirmed covid-19 cases in the facility.


Group Exercises, Services & Facilities Hire:

Initially we will not be running group exercise classes onsite, but we are offering online classes through zoom. See our group exercise page for more details.

We’re trying to get in person classes back up and running for our members as soon as possible, but our priority at this time is the safe re-opening of the gym.

No, the squash court will initially remain closed. We will re-open this part of the facility when we feel it is safe to do so.

No, we are not taking bookings for either the studios or the sports hall at this time.


Gym Memberships:

Yes but we are only selling 1 month memberships, monthly direct debit memberships, and day passes. See our membership’s page for prices here.

All memberships were frozen for the time we were closed. They are going to be activated from the 27th and we will add another 2 weeks to all memberships as a thank you for being patient while we have been closed (this includes Direct debit memberships too). We can also freeze your membership until the end of semester A as long as you have a valid reason. Please email our reception team at su-qmotion.reception@qmul.ac.uk.

Yes, from Monday the 10th August 2020 we are resuming gym programme appointments. During these appointments our staff will wear a face mask to help keep you safe.
