University and student life can be expensive. Especially with rising living costs joining a student group or an activity can feel completely out of reach. At QMSU we want to reduce these barriers where we can.
Our Student Participation Support Fund is designed to help you improve your university experience and give you better access to our student groups, activities and events, helping break down any potential barriers to give you the best student experience.
What is our participation fund?
Students can apply for up to £50 per term towards student group activities (not sport) to help support any extracurricular activities during the year. This funding can be used towards helping you get memberships or take part in society events for any QMSU approved event or activity.
Who can apply?
You can apply if:
- Your funding request is linked to a QMSU-affiliated student group (a Society or Student Media Outlet — not a Sports Club as they have separate funding - you can find out more HERE)
- The funding is for a QMSU-approved event or activity.
What can funding be used for?
- Membership fees
- Subsidising event fees e.g. end of year balls, conference costs etc.
- Competition Costs
- Equipment to partake in an activity
An example of a request that would be considered for funding:
A student is seeking funding to purchase tickets to join the QM Model UN Society and take part in its annual conference as they are unable to afford it otherwise.
(Applicants will have to demonstrate that the funding is going towards a QMSU affiliated society/membership)
An example of a request that would not be considered for funding:
A student applies for funding to take part in an external social event that is not affiliated with QMSU.
The Participation Fund is designed to help financially support events aligned with QMSU events, therefore funding outside of this will not be considered.
Important things to note!
- Funding isn’t guaranteed and applications are reviewed case by case
- In some cases, we may consider bids over £50, but these are not guaranteed
- Applications are reviewed within 10 working days
- We don’t fund retrospective bids (so remember to submit this before committing to any costs), other SU activity fees or costs related to your degree.
