Last week, our Venues Team attended the Licensed Trade Show at Liverpool Guild, an annual event bringing together professionals from across the sector to discuss how we can continue creating safe, welcoming licensed spaces for students. The event also hosted the NUS National Best Bar None Awards, celebrating excellence in responsible venue management across Students' Unions.

We're incredibly proud to share that Queen Mary Students' Union (QMSU) had an outstanding evening, achieving Best Bar None Accreditation and bringing home twice as many awards as any other Students' Union, including:

  • National Winner – Best Cocktail for the Strawberry Matcha-tini (You'll be able to try this for yourself at Drapers in September!)

  • National Winner – Best Newcomer

  • National Winner – Best Training & People Development

On the achievements of his team Stephen (Head of Venues & Hospitality) says:

"From the programme of events and hospitality set up by Sabina (Events Coordinator) and Jakki (Venues Administrator), the excellent ops delivery by Ayeh (Assistant Manager) and Kieran (Cafe Manager), the tireless work with the non-licensed element of our events by Lai (Cafe Assistant) and Gezime (Drapers Chef), and not to forget our fab student staff team, everyone had a huge role to play here."

Special congratulations also go to Jess (Drapers Manager), whose commitment was instrumental in the accreditation process. From preparing the submission and supporting documentation to representing QMSU in the national cocktail competition, Jess's contribution was exceptional.

Achieving Best Bar None Accreditation alongside three national awards in our first year is an incredible accomplishment. Please join us in congratulating everyone involved in this fantastic achievement! Discover all QMSU outlets here.
