Deputy Returning Officer Statement (8th June)

QMSU Spring Elections 2026 - Statement from the Deputy Returning Officer

The counts for the following positions in the QMSU Spring Elections were delayed whilst complaints about a number of candidates were investigated.

  • Students’ Union President
  • Vice President Welfare
  • Vice President Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Vice President Liberation, International, and Postgraduate
  • Vice President Science and Engineering

Following investigation, seven candidates were disqualified. The disqualified candidates had the right to appeal that decision. An Appeals Panel made up of the Students’ Union’s External Trustees has now considered all appeals and have decided that the original decisions to exclude the seven candidates should remain, and all appeals were therefore rejected.

The election counts for the affected positions have now taken place with the seven candidates excluded. Any second preference or subsequent votes cast when voting for those candidates were transferred to the relevant other candidates.

The election results can be found here.

Any questions concerning the elections should be sent to: su-elections@qmul.ac.uk
