Student Volunteering Week 2026

Taking place from Monday 9th - Sunday 15th February, we are celebrating Student Volunteering Week with a range of student-led events and initiatives to support local communities and charities.

To celebrate National Student Volunteer Week, QMSU Volunteering have worked with our Volunteering Champions as they put together an exciting schedule of events and initiatives that celebrate student volunteering! All events are open for all Queen Mary students to attend, whether you have volunteered with us before or if you would like to try it for the first time.

Donation Drives throughout the Week:
Food items Donation Drive for Bow Foodbank

You can donate food items at QMSU Hub reception in the Mile end campus.

Items can be donated from Monday 2 - Wednesday 11th Feburuary 12:00!

Food items and essentials Donation Drive for Whitechapel Mission

You can donate food and essential hygiene items at The Griff or The Recovery Room in the Garrod Building on the Whitechapel campus.

Items can be donated from Monday 2 - Thursday 12th February 12:00! 

 

 

Events

Monday 9th February

Plant pot deocrating for St Josephs' Hospice

Come and get creative decorating a Plant pot for the garden at St Joseph's Hospice!

This event will take place in Blomeley room 1 in the Students' Union Hub from 13:00-15:30!

Tuesday 10th  February

Utilising transferrable Skills from Volunteering (Skills Session)

Want to learn how to use the skills you've developed from volunteering in job applications and interviews? This Skills Session will cover how to identify the skills you have developed through volunteering, and how to talk about these to employers!

We will also cover some careers you might be interested in if you love volunteering, such as different roles in the charity sector.

Wednesday 11th  February

Food bank Donation Delivery (Mile end)

The Volunteering team has arranged a food donation drive for Bow Food bank.

We are looking for students to help deliver these donations to the foodbank.

Please come to the QMSU hub Reception on Wednesday 11th of Feburaury at 2pm to collect the items to then walk and deliver them to Bow foodbank.

Thursday 12th Feburary 

Thanksgiving Thursday Card-Making Day

Join us for a relaxed and feel-good Thanksgiving Card-Making Day, where you will create and write thank-you cards for residents and staff at Silk Court Care Home in Bethnal Green!

This is a lovely, creative volunteering activity where you can take a break from your studies, meet other volunteers, and do something genuinely uplifting.

Location: In Blomeley room 1 of the Students Union Hub

Food Bank Donation delivery (Whitechapel) 

Our BL volunteering officer has arranged a donation drive of food and essential items for Whitechapel Mission.

He is looking for students to help deliver these donations to the foodbank.

Please come to the Garrod building on Thursday 12th of Febuaury at 3pm to collect the items to then walk and deliver them to Whitechapel Mission.

Friday 13th  February

Volunteer Social for Friendly Friday!

This free event will be held in Drapers Lounge on Friday 13th of February from 3:00-4:30PM

Come along to meet and connect with fellow volunteers, for games and activities and some Drapers sweet treats!
