Course Rep of the Month - Winners

Course Rep of the Month is our scheme designed to recognise and reward the hard work that our amazing Course Reps do! Each month we award the Course Rep of the Month title to a rep from each faculty (Science and Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Medicine and Dentistry).

    I’m very grateful to be selected as Course Rep of the Month and to have my efforts recognised. For me, this role is about building a supportive and connected community, a space where we can get to know each other, share ideas, openly discuss challenges, and work together to make the most of this academic year. Through organising social events and supporting one another during the December assignment period with daily affirmations, my aim has been to remind our cohort that no one is alone in this journey. This recognition is a meaningful reminder that when we come together, we can achieve greater things.

    Having been the course representative both this year and last year, I’m honoured to be chosen as one of the course reps of the month. Mostly, I’ve enjoyed working alongside lecturers to implement changes and truly appreciate the lengths they go to listen to our concerns. I always look for ways to improve our courses and better our time at university through the Student Voice meetings while representing my peers and raising their concerns. I hope to continue going above and beyond in my role to make changes that benefit us all.

    As a Course Representative for the PGCert in Medical Education, I have taken a proactive and structured approach to strengthening communication between students and faculty, ensuring that student feedback is consistently gathered, clearly presented, and acted upon. Balancing full-time work alongside part-time study, I have established effective communication channels across cohorts, created safe and accessible ways for peers to share feedback, and represented the student voice at Student-Staff Liaison Committee meetings with clarity and impact. This role has been both rewarding and formative, strengthening my skills in communication, advocacy, and collaboration, while supporting meaningful dialogue with faculty and contributing to ongoing improvements in the student experience within the Faculty of Barts and The London.

    I am truly honoured to have been entrusted by my fellow colleagues and the staff at QMUL to represent the voice of our cohort and to help overcome any obstacles to a successful university experience. Through initiatives like creating the MSc Management Bulletin platform and organising social events, I hope to strengthen our sense of community and enhance our learning experience, making it both meaningful and memorable. Being selected as Course Rep of the Month is an encouraging milestone, and I hope it marks the beginning of the positive impact I aim to make during my journey here at QMUL. Thank you!

    Serving as Year 2 course rep has been one of the most rewarding and energising experiences of my student life. Working closely with both staff and students gave me a whole new perspective on what it means to be part of a university community. From lobbying for necessary motions and attending Student Voice Meetings to actively seeking feedback from my cohort, I discovered how empowering it is to represent others and help shape positive change, even if it sometimes feels like moving just one piece on a chessboard. This role taught me the actual value of collaboration and building strong relationships within my course, as we achieve so much more when we work together.

    Serving as a Course Rep for the MSc Health Data in Practice at Barts and The London has been an amazing experience. As this was a new program offered by the university, I came in with the goal of making sure my fellow students feel heard, supported, and empowered. This role, along with QMSU's guidance and the support of our Course Leads and tutors has allowed me to actively contribute to shaping a better learning experience for all of us. I’m very grateful for the opportunity and excited to keep learning and advocating for my cohort throughout the year.

My role goes beyond just raising concerns—I take proactive steps to resolve them, ensuring that every student feels informed and supported throughout their academic journey.

    I have gone out my way to become course rep for 2 years in a row for Aerospace Engineering. Always have bought up both positive and negative feedback with the lecturers timely and always have been supportive of any concerns needed to be raised. I have guided majority of my cohort consistently throughout the 2 years of being course rep and this has led me to being appointed c-chair within the School of Engineering and Materials Science 2024-2025.

    Emma is an amazing course representative. Right from the start, she has been incredibly committed to making everyone feel supported and included. She created our WhatsApp group and consistently answers course-related questions, both in the group and privately for all of us. She has also created several surveys to check in on how everyone is doing and has forwarded the feedback to our course convenor, ensuring that any issues are addressed promptly. Overall, she is doing a fantastic job and definitely deserves this award.

    I’m truly honoured to be recognised as Course rep of the month! Although there is still much to accomplish, the key focus so far has been working to bring students at the center of discussions. Together, as a team, alongside other SPIR Course Reps and staff, we work to advocate for ways to enhance the student experience and make sure that student voices are heard in every decision. While our work as Course Reps isn’t always visible, we are among you, listening and taking note when things aren’t right.
