What our volunteers say

Hear from students about their volunteering experiences, the skills they've developed and the difference they've made.

As a fresher, volunteering at Teddy Bear Hospital helped me meet new people and develop lifelong skills. Presidents Amelia and Alex were very supportive in explaining the flexible volunteering hours, which made it easy for me to get involved. Volunteering has helped me step out of my comfort zone by talking to children and answering their enthusiastic questions. A memorable moment was safety day, where children met us alongside police and firefighters. For my commitment, I was nominated New Volunteer of the Year. This experience deepened my passion for public engagement and my desire to support communities in a meaningful way.

I am Rachel, an active volunteer and one of the Volunteer Champion at Queen Mary Students’ Union. Volunteering allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and gain new perspectives. From preparing healthy three course meals at Food cycle, to providing companionship to children at Solidarity sports, volunteering has always opened my eyes to new people and communities. It has brought me not only skills and experience, but also a sense of joy and fulfilment.
